Visual Art Summer Intensive

The Visual Art Intensive is a full program that seeks to broaden students creativity and professional development skills by furthering their understanding of the world around them in a creative, supportive environment. CoSA is excited to partner with the San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) to offer 2 full weeks of programming to eligible teens.

During the length of the program, students in grades 8-12 are given hands-on training in several art mediums, in workshops facilitated by professional artists. Moreover, each will include two guest lectures from local artists to further enrich the learning experience. In addition to growing students artistic ability and technique, participants will receive professional development training in museum practices. This training, led by professionals in the arts, museum, and gallery field, exposes students to new career paths and help crystallize their career goals.

SDAI’s Summer Teen Intensive culminates in a final exhibition at CoSA, curated by the participants. Students are responsible for the complete exhibition: choosing a curatorial concept; promoting the exhibition through press releases and flyers designed by the students; writing wall text for the exhibition; and the installation of the work.

The purpose of the San Diego Art Institute Summer Teen Intensive is to facilitate driven high school students who are interested in the arts or arts administration, and seek to build their self-esteem and a lasting sense of identity through authentic work experience. At SDAI we believe project-based learning can be instrumental in paving the way of success in a student’s life. Students who attend the San Diego Art Institute Summer Teen Intensive will leave each day of the program having learned valuable artistic and career-based skills.
