Look what's front and center in the Coronado Island Film Festival poster. Yep! The Coronado Performing Arts Center at Coronado High School. CUSD, CHS and CoSA are big participants and supporters of this inaugural film festival.
Nancy McRae, who works at CoSA and is on the Board of the CIFF, is screening a selection of films for the "Service to Country" film award. "The films I have watched are powerful. I am excited for people to come to our film festival and experience what I call the force of film. At one end of the spectrum, movies can be entertaining, almost magical in their ability to transport us outside of our reality. On the other end of the spectrum, film can open our eyes to the reality of human conditions we never knew existed, and move us to want to change the world, make it a better place."
The Coronado Performing Arts Center's main stage theatre and Black Box theatre are both being used in the film festival. At 570 seats, the main stage theatre is the festival's largest venue.
There will be 85 films shown over the 3-day Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, January 15 - 18. In addition, there are panels, parties, pop-up movie scenes (keep your eyes open on Orange Avenue on January 16 to be part of those!), an outdoor movie and s'mores on the closing night and much, much more.
